Most of the territory was part of the seigneury of Beaurivage, and another portion belonged to the seigneury of Lauzon. Settlement began in the 1820s. The Craig Road, opened in 1810, brought Irish, French-Canadian, German and Anglo-Saxon families.

Much of the area then belonged to the parish of Saint-Gilles. Residents of the Iberville, Saint-Noël, Saint-Thomas and Fiddler Green rangs spent their Sundays travelling there for Mass, when spring floods on the Rivière Beaurivage did not block the way. They therefore asked the archdiocese for a resident priest.
The parish was canonically established in 1872, using land from Saint-Gilles, Saint-Patrice-de-Beaurivage, Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon and Saint-Bernard. The parish municipality was incorporated in 1874, the year the post office opened under the name Newbois. A first church, built in 1872, burned seven years later, and the current church, designed by Siroy Lafleur, was built in 1879 and 1880.
The Festival de la Gargouille was founded in 1983. In the early 2000s, the municipality upgraded its water and sewer systems as new residential and industrial areas developed. The recreation complex, with its covered rink, opened in 2010, and the parish celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022.
