Before 1903, the area was divided among five parishes: Saint-Édouard, Sainte-Croix, Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly, Saint-Apollinaire and Saint-Flavien. By 1885, Honoré Ferland was already running a water-powered sawmill on the river in the 6th rang.

In 1903, residents of these parishes asked the diocese for a new church. The parish was named Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur-d’Issoudun in honour of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, who came from Issoudun, France. The first Mass was celebrated on July 15, 1903, in a village house, and on October 24, 1904, Mass was celebrated in the church for the parish’s 88 families.
The parish was canonically recognized in 1909, the year the municipality was incorporated, and the first council met at the home of Mayor Xavier Fortier. On August 4, 1910, lightning destroyed the newly finished church, and parishioners returned to a rebuilt church on September 10, 1911. Also in 1910, Herménégilde Ferland moved the family sawmill to the centre of the village and converted it to steam.
In the early 1960s, a central school was built near the church and welcomed students from 1963. Issoudun has been twinned with the French town of Issoudun since 1977. The Nature-Environnement committee created the Sentier La Tourbière in 2010, and the steam sawmill, now more than a century old, still runs on occasion.
