Known as Lac Larron, the lake was attached to the township of Stoneham when it was created in 1790. In the 19th century, English-speaking upper-class families visited, and painter Cornelius Krieghoff came to paint. Around 1900, the Gails family set up Rockland Farm, and the Webster family, owners from 1939, had a ski slope built in the 1940s.
In the 1950s, developers took an interest in the site. On February 11, 1959, a law created the town of Lac Delage from land in Lac-Saint-Charles and Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury. The lake then took the name of senator and politician Cyrille Fraser Delâge, who had died two years earlier.
Architect Isaac Miron’s urban plan called for five neighbourhoods of about a hundred houses, each around an inn. The first was built between 1962 and 1964, along with the Manoir du Lac Delage, but the concept was dropped in 1970. From 1990, the west shore was developed with large wooded lots.
