In the 1830s and 1840s, the village core was called Méthot’s Mill, after the sawmill that Louis Méthot, from Sainte-Croix, built on the Rivière Henri. About a hundred men worked there clearing land and hauling timber. The best cleared land then became farms.

The first railway station was built in 1874 and was also named Méthot’s Mill. On May 16, 1880, Louis Méthot’s widow gave her Méthot’s Mill land to her son Wenceslas. François-Xavier Caron, son-in-law of pioneer Octave Ratté, was stationmaster from 1885 to 1937, and a second station was built in 1910.
On December 24, 1912, the lieutenant governor proclaimed the municipality of Saint-Octave-de-Dosquet, named in honour of Bishop Pierre-Herman Dosquet of Québec. Because of a procedural flaw in the council election, the Gazette officielle did not announce it until February 9, 1918. Work on the presbytery began in 1915, and the church was blessed on July 16, 1922, by Cardinal Louis-Nazaire Bégin.
CN closed the station in 1970. The church, destroyed by fire in 1988, was replaced in 1990, the same year the rails of the abandoned line were removed. The municipality took the name Dosquet in 1996, the RCM built a bike path on the former railway line in 1998, and Dosquet celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012.
