The first settlers arrived around 1853, the year the area began to be served as a mission. A post office opened in 1866, and the municipality was created in 1872 from part of Saint-Joachim’s territory.
The current church was built in 1893, and the presbytery in 1906. The old road through the village, long known as the chemin des Caps, linked the Côte-de-Beaupré to Charlevoix. In the 20th century, many residents worked for the St Anne Power Company, which logged the Sainte-Anne River basin from 1905.
In 1953, the Côte de la Miche was built, the section of Route 138 that climbs to Saint-Tite-des-Caps. The dry, cool climate drew summer vacationers, and the cottage areas now have more than 300 cottages.
