The district was part of the former seigneury of Lauzon. It was first called Village Saint-Denis, after a concession on the left bank of the Beaurivage shown on an 1828 map of the seigneury. The Chaudière station, on the rail line now operated by Canadian National, gave its name to the post office opened in 1873, Chaudière-Station.

Residents then worked mainly in rail transport and did little farming. A Catholic mission served the area from 1915. In 1919, the territory separated from the parish municipality of Saint-Étienne-de-Lauzon: the village municipality of Saint-Rédempteur was created on June 9 and the parish on October 3. In 1925, it had about 590 residents.
The post office took the name Saint-Rédempteur-de-Lévis in 1966. The Pierre-Laporte Bridge, opened in 1970 less than 5 km away, sped up the village’s growth. From the late 1970s, housing developments took over the former farmland, then the woods at the end of these lots. In 1981, Saint-Rédempteur became a town.
On January 1, 2002, Saint-Rédempteur was merged with eight other municipalities to form the new city of Lévis. Its name now refers to a district matching the territory of the former town. In 2007, the École de la Ruche hosted the first chapter of the Les Aidants scolaires movement, which encourages residents to volunteer in neighbourhood schools.
